FASHION // PORTRAIT // EDITORIAL
Born in 1973, acclaimed New York fashion and portrait photographer, Nikola Tamindzic established his reputation as Gawker's house photographer in 2004 and hasn't stopped shooting since. His fashion and portrait work embraces a deliberate paradox, confronting darkness and humor, desire and restraint, everyday and the surreal, all in a single image. He gestures towards a world that is recognizable, yet entirely dictated by its own rules and realities: a story does not begin or end within one photograph, but continues on its own.
Nikola's work has been the subject of feature articles in New York Times, PHOTO, El Pais, and The British Journal of Photography. He's been named Photographer of the Year in Village Voice (2007) and L magazine (2008), and Photographer of the Month in Paris PHOTO (October 2008). He counts among his clients NYLON, H&M, New York magazine, New Yorker, Village Voice, Time Out NY, Mute Records, Gawker, Out, Maxim, Stuff, Vanity Fair and The Guardian. His first book of portraits is scheduled for release through Random House in 2010.
